Local pubs, cafés and restaurants

There's a great choice of places to eat and drink, all within walking distance of the house. Here are some of our favourites...

Lulworth Lodge

38 Main Road, West Lulworth (01929 400252)

Built on the site of Lulworth’s original watermill, Lulworth Lodge is a relaxed coastal hotel a short walk from Lulworth Cove and just five minutes from the house. There’s always plenty of local fish on the menu, as well as an outside deck that is perfect for summer dining, soaking up the sun and enjoying a pre or post dinner drink.

Main Road, West Lulworth (01929 400252)

A little more formal than the other local restaurants and pubs, but worth a visit. Great views across the hills from the terrace. Only 100 yards from the house, with some steep steps to climb to get there.

Main Road, West Lulworth (01929 400552)

Situated high on the cliff, overlooking Lulworth Cove, Rudds is as close as you can get to the cove without being on the beach!

Seasonal specials include lobster and mussels from local fisherman, alongside British classics and a selection of Thai-inspired dishes.

Castle Inn

Main Road, West Lulworth (01929 400311)

A traditional thatched Dorset pub, dating back to the 16th century, with a simple but well-executed menu. Usually has live music one or two evenings each week. Turn right as you leave the house, and it’s a five-minute walk away on the left.

Sailor’s Return

Chaldon Herring, DT2 8DN (01305 854441)

Well worth the 45 minute inland walk, or under ten-minute drive away, in the village of Chaldon Herring, the Sailor's Return is a traditional thatched country pub full of little characterful nooks and crannies to relax in. Great food and good wine list. Closed on Mondays; takes reservations for parties of up to eight people.

Cove Inn

Main Road, West Lulworth (01929 400333)

A good place for a drink, with a pub food menu. It’s just a short walk away on the way to the cove and was originally a mail stagecoach stop on the road from Wareham to get fresh horses and drop off mail for Lulworth villagers; later it was a haven for the smugglers. It’s family and dog friendly with a lovely terrace, wood burners, and award-winning Badger beers.

Finley’s fish and chip shop

Main Road, West Lulworth (01929 400 711)

Next to the visitors’ centre and the main car park in Lulworth Cove, you can eat outside on the picnic benches or enjoy your fish and chips on the beach. Phone ahead and place your order during the busy summer months as there can be a long wait at peak times. The fish and chip shop is around the back of the building, so not visible from the main road.
